Secondary Weekly Update 14/06/2019 from Mr. Nick Lee

This week, it was a privilege to attend the joint collaborative art exhibition hosted at BIS. The event which featured work from Year 8 and 9 students from both BVIS and BIS took the theme of an ‘art timeline’. Students were challenged to  create art pieces from one of the many art movements that existed from 1900 to the present day. We saw elements of pop art, vorticism, graffiti art, and cubism amongst others. Students worked in small groups to try and create their own artwork in the style of the movement they chose, and the results were spectacular. My thanks go to Ms Corkery and the Art department at BIS for, what I hope , is the start of a long collaboration for our budding artists at both schools. It was a very special event.

I would like to congratulate the A Level and IGCSE students for finishing their exams. Today was the very last day of exams - which started six weeks ago. They have had to work so hard in order to face up to this challenge, and finally they can all have a rest and enjoy the summer. I look forward to celebrating their results in August.

For the Year 13 students the 14th June not only marked their last exam but also the end of their secondary education. The results they gain in August will help determine which universities they go on to - and the next stage of their lives. It is a really big moment for them, their parents and their teachers, all of whom have worked so hard to support them at this crucial time. To mark the occasion, we held our annual Graduation Ceremony, this year at the Landmark Intercontinental Hotel, which I will write about for you next week. I wish each and everyone of them the very best for the future and thank them for all that they have contributed to our community.

I hope you all have a great week ahead.
