Malcolm Wood

Malcolm 2021

Head of Primary

  • PGCE General Primary - Birmingham University, UK
  • BA (Hons) Contemporary East European Studies - University of London, UK
  • TESOL Cert. - Trinity College London, UK

A cheerful optimist, Malcolm is happiest at the heart of a large community. He believes good people from everywhere have much in common due to fundamental human values that transcend cultural differences.

He has 23 years’ experience in education, as teacher of General Primary, English and French, and has been Principal, Head of Primary, Head of Early Years and Head of French in schools in France, The Czech Republic, Uganda and Turkey, as well as at independent schools in the UK.

Having taught and coordinated curriculum in two settings using the International Primary Curriculum, he has high quality experience of project-based learning. He values each child’s educational experience and each parent’s positive engagement with it, believing teaching should be whole-hearted and that students learn best in a state of ‘relaxed alertness’ – neither anxious nor bored but comfortable, engaged and hungry for more. He aims to ensure the learning environment is safe yet stimulating; happy yet challenging; orderly yet liberating.

He comes to Vietnam with his two children and his wife, who is also a teacher.

His hobbies include hill running, learning Vietnamese, reading poetry and singing. Perhaps more importantly for a Head of Primary, he also enjoys doing cartwheels on the grass and swimming in the sea with his children and his dog.
