Why developing essential life skills is key to our curriculum in Grade 10 at Northbridge It has been a busy semester for Grade 10 students as they enter the final months of the five year MYP programme here at Northbridge International School Cambodia.

It has been a busy semester for Grade 10 students as they enter the final months of the five year MYP programme here at Northbridge International School Cambodia.

In addition to developing subject specific knowledge and skills, students at Northbridge focus on developing our Learner Outcomes, which include being inquirers, being open minded, being balanced and being reflective. These are key attributes for Grade 10 students as they prepare to move through to the next stage of their educational journey at Northbridge. 

A major focus for Grade 10 this year is the Personal Project, which provides students with the opportunity to demonstrate the wider skills that they have developed during the MYP, investigating an area of personal interest. Students should now be well engaged with their personal projects and starting towards their final products. If you have a child in Grade 10, I encourage you to discuss their exciting projects with them; we’re all looking forward to seeing  the finished products!

The introduction of International Life Skills (ILS) to our curriculum has provided students with further opportunities to explore the importance of having a growth mindset, which is recognised as one of the most important personal attributes for a successful career. Focusing on being balanced, students have looked at ways to maintain good mental health and have also explored the character strengths required to be successful throughout life.

Looking forward to Semester 2, Grade 10 will be heading to Kirirom in February for the annual Mission in Action trip. Here, students can look forward to a variety of team building activities, opportunities to explore some of the beautiful Cambodian countryside and undertake a community service project at Coconut School.

Important decisions will soon need to be made by Grade 10 Students as they select which subjects they wish to study at IBDP level. I encourage you to talk to your children about the courses they plan to take, and their reasons for doing so. The IBDP provides a broad, academically rigorous curriculum. Students should also consider their plans for university; does the subject they wish to study have specific entrance requirements?
