This week in the EYC and Primary

20 11月 2015

Dear Parents,

Playing sports and spending time outdoors is an important part of healthy development for children. Though not every child will choose to sign up for sports teams, it is important that we provide opportunities for every child, regardless of ability, to take part in physical team events. Research has shown that children who take part in sports benefit intellectually and perform better in school. This is in addition to gaining an appreciation for fitness that carries into later life.

On Tuesday afternoon, this week, all children from Year 3 to Year 6 took part in a

House T Ball competition

which was truly inclusive. Children showed excellent team work and good sportsmanship. Congratulations to Mr. Atkinson for organizing such a super afternoon and to all the teachers for leading and guiding their teams. Next Wednesday, Mr. Atkinson will be leading another sports afternoon, this time for Year 1 and 2.

The younger children were also out and about as Year 1 visited the vets this week as part of their topic, ‘The People Who Help Us’. Here they found out more about how to care for animals and what happens when they get sick. And finally, Year 5 visited Red River today as part of their IPC topic.

As the term continues, ‘

’ remains our focus. Children are being rewarded for showing this characteristic and are being encouraged to rise to the challenge and not give up. Today, in our assembly in the Early Years Centre, Ms Thu told our Early Years and Key Stage One children the story of the pig who wanted to reach the cookies on top of the fridge. We all laughed as the pig tried again and again and was very creative in his attempts. Maybe parents can find more stories to share with their children at home about perseverance?

Next week is our

Anti-Bullying Week

when we will focus on how bullying makes you feel and why we don’t want bullying in our school. All children will be involved and will march together around our school on Friday to voice our opinions. Parents are invited on

morning to a

special coffee morning focusing on on-line bullying and internet safety

. If you haven’t signed up yet, then please contact Ms. Hung in the Primary Office.
