Dear Parents,

Happy New Year to our BIS community! I hope you all had a lovely festive break.

On Monday we welcomed over 30 new students of different nationalities including Italian, Australian, Korean, Japanese and Vietnamese. It has been lovely to see how quickly the children have settled in.

This week, it has been great to share photos from our Year 12 CAS trip to Mai Chau. CAS, Community Activity and Service, is one 3 essential elements of the IB Diploma Programme. The aim is for students to enhance their personal and interpersonal development by learning through experience and collaboration with others. Working on a communal project, as a team, with the aim of improving life for villagers in rural areas is not only hard work but also fun. I look forward to hearing more from them when they return today.

At BIS, we value the relationships we have with our community partners. Last term, I wrote about a partnership we have with Blue Dragon, an organisation which helps street children to re-connect with their families and keep them safe from potential harm. I would like to thank all of you who purchased tickets for our annual Secondary Production of Elf. The proceeds have been used to purchase 20 blankets, 20 pillows and 2 mattresses for Blue Dragon. In addition, we have one week left for you to contribute to our Tet collection, which you will see in the foyer. Donations of toiletries can be made until Friday 17th as our students will visit Dragon House on Monday 20th January in order to deliver donations.

As Tet approaches, I would like to give you a summary of some of the exciting activities planned at BIS. Once again, we will hold a whole school assembly which parents can attend on Tuesday 21st January. Dragon dancing and calligraphy will be arranged for the foyer and auditorium and groups of students will perform on the stage. We are also creating a Tet video with the help of Nguyen My Dung, a professional singer who is also one of our parents. For parents, we are organising a trip to provide a taster of food and festivities for those who may not be familiar with the customs and festivities here in Vietnam. Further details will follow.

Next week, we will welcome back Salla Saarikangas , a Julliard dance specialist, to work with our students on the Juilliard programme. Dance classes in primary and Year 7 will be highlighted for this visit.
