Richard was born in Sri Lanka and spent his early infant education in New Zealand after which his family moved to the UK where he completed his junior and secondary education. He graduated from Westminster College in Oxford UK with a Bachelor of Education (Hons) and was later awarded a National Professional Qualification for Headship from the National College of Leadership UK.
Throughout his career, Richard has undertaken various teaching and leadership roles in schools around the world. Richard embarked on his teaching career in the UK where he was Head of two UK primary schools before moving to international education. His first overseas position was as Head of An Phu Primary Campus at the British International School in Ho Chi Minh city. He then held the senior leadership position as Principal of the Britannica International School in Budapest. In August 2017, he returned to Asia as Principal for Northbridge International School, Cambodia, where he held this position until he moved to BIS Hanoi in 2021.
Richard is a keen and reflective learner who enjoys leading and developing teams of teachers. He has a genuine desire to make a difference in the life of others, in the communities that he serves. He is passionate about the role education can play in transforming the hearts and minds of individuals in the societies they live in.
In his spare time, Richard likes to relax by running, playing tennis, travelling, or listening to music and is also an active member of the local church. He is married to Alison also a qualified educator and has two adult children, Harriet who recently graduated from University and Tom who graduated from Northbridge Cambodia in 2021.
