Our youngest children develop knowledge of the world around them in creative ways: after initial exploration of materials and mark-making in Early Years, Primary-age pupils are able to formalise their artistic development through study of different media in project work. By KS3 (Year 7) Art has become a distinct part of the school curriculum and can be chosen as a subject option for both the IGCSE and International Baccalaureate (IB Diploma) courses.
Our aim at Regents International School Pattaya is to inspire creativity in students, encourage them to examine the world in close detail, make visual connections and generate new perspectives, learn technical skills, study the Great Masters of art and investigate new and contemporary artists and art movements. We want our students to take risks and try out new things, to persist and develop ideas.
Students are encouraged to take pride in their work, which can be seen on display across the Early Years, Primary and Secondary buildings. The pinnacle of the Art Department calendar is the highly-regarded annual International Baccalaureate Art Exhibition, which showcases the skill, inspiration and determination of our highest-achieving artists.
Our two art studios enable students to experiment with a wide range of techniques in both two and three dimensions. This includes drawing, charcoal, painting with watercolours and acrylics, plein air painting, marbling and ink painting techniques, spray painting, printing including lino printing, mono printing, screen printing, and collage. Three dimensional sculpture is also popular, including working with wood and bamboo, wire sculpting, mod rock sculpting, papier-mâché, plaster sculpting and molding.
The visual arts are strongly represented in the wider life of the school, including the Global Citizenship program: one recent student project was a ‘plein air’ watercolour painting course with one of our community partners, the Mechai Pattana school.
