The purpose of CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service) is to provide students with opportunities to learn from practical experience, personal involvement in activities that are real and purposeful, and provide significant outcomes for the student and the community.
Our students participate in a range of activities that involve intellectual, physical, creative and emotional experiences, which provide the student with personal and achievable challenges. Thoughtful consideration of planning, reviewing progress, and reflecting on outcomes and personal learning are integral components of the course that are used to determine the successful completion of a student’s CAS Program. On many occasions, our CAS students also work in cooperation with the Elementary and High School Student Councils to organise school-wide events and initiatives.
Every year, a school-wide charity walk takes place. This years charity walk was another success! The sun shone for us and everyone enjoyed the walk whilst raising funds for the Stahili Foundation. The Stahili Foundation is a volunteer driven, non-profit organisation based in The Hague, that rescues and supports child victims of forced labour, exploitation, and abuse and neglect in rural Kenya.
Grade 11 and 12 CAS students also prepare food for the visitors and residents of the Pauluskerk Homeless Shelter on the Kruisplein. Their contributions are always sincerely appreciated; residents and volunteers are still talking about the cakes. Those running the shelter inform us that they are impressed by the manners and openness of their NAISR visitors.
Other CAS and Student Council projects that our students have initiated this year include a range of awareness campaigns for a variety of organizations including animal welfare organizations, donating clothes and Christmas gifts to our local Rotterdam Rijnmond child protection centre (JBRR), and fighting on behalf of refugees worldwide.
