Northbridge International School Cambodia (NISC) is excited by the coming launch of its new adventure playground in October 2025. This nature-inspired space, set among the trees, invites students to climb, explore, and imagine, blending adventure with a connection to the natural environment. The playground will be a standout feature for NISC and a distinctive addition to the Phnom Penh international school landscape.
Play-based learning is all about kids learning through play, with the guidance of skilled teachers. This approach helps children think more deeply and make great strides in their development. There are many types of play, like physical play, pretend play, and games with rules. When kids have the freedom to play in ways that interest them, they become more curious, interact socially, and enjoy lifelong learning.
“With this new play space, we are utilising our green oasis, giving every child a place to explore, imagine and thrive. It will be a vibrant hub for play, learning and community spirit - right at the heart of our school.” says Aidan Stallwood, Head of Primary.
In early childhood, play-based learning is essential. It supports social, emotional, cognitive, and physical growth. It helps kids build their identities, form positive relationships, and develop perseverance and motivation. Plus, it encourages creativity and problem-solving.
At NISC, play-based learning is a fundamental aspect of the International Baccalaureate (IB) program, which prioritizes inquiry-based and student-centered education. The new adventure playground will offer students an exceptional opportunity to engage in creative play, develop their physical skills, and strengthen their social interactions. Frances Morton, principal expresses hope that “students will feel a sense of excitement and curiosity when using the playground, as it should be a place where they can immerse themselves in imaginative play and build connections with their peers.”
Neurodiversity refers to the natural differences in how our brains and nervous systems function, highlighting the diversity in how we all think, learn, and interact with the world. Hence, it encompasses conditions or traits that differ from what is typically considered "neurotypical."
World Book Week is here, and at NISC and we've been diving headfirst into the enchanting world of stories! This year, our theme is "Reading is Magic," and it's been a week filled with wonder, imagination, and the sheer joy of books.
