Although Pi Day is officially celebrated on March 14, students at Northbridge International School Cambodia brought mathematics to life one day early with an engaging and imaginative event: π-Master.
Designed for Grades 6–10, π-Master challenged students to think beyond the classroom through a series of dynamic, Taskmaster-style activities. Working collaboratively in teams, students developed problem-solving skills, creativity, and confidence — all key elements of a Northbridge education.
The event began with a creative team-naming challenge, requiring each group to incorporate “pi” into their name. This sparked energy and originality from the outset, with standout entries such as Acciπtral Backπece, which even introduced the mathematics department to a new word.
Students then explored mathematical concepts in real-world contexts. From capturing tessellations around campus to identifying objects that approximate the Golden Ratio, learners engaged in hands-on discovery that made abstract ideas tangible and meaningful.
One of the highlights was the innovative “Aπ task,” where students combined creativity and emerging technologies. After selecting an animal, vegetable, and mineral, teams used AI tools to design advertisements inspired by π. The Cutie-π team impressed with a memorable and persuasive rabbit-themed campaign, showcasing both creativity and digital literacy.
Another challenge encouraged linguistic and mathematical thinking, as students combined Greek letters to invent new words and definitions. The πphans team stood out with “muiota,” humorously defined as “the sound someone makes when jumping from a great height” — a moment that reflected both imagination and a strong sense of community.
Throughout π-Master, classrooms were filled with curiosity, collaboration, and authentic engagement. The event exemplified how experiential learning at Northbridge International School Cambodia nurtures not only academic excellence but also creativity and global competencies.
Events like π-Master highlight the power of mathematics to inspire innovation and empower students to create their futures. Following this year’s success, π-Master will return — bigger, bolder, and continuing to celebrate the joy of learning.
