Have You Got Your Giving Tree Bag?

09 oktober 2014

Each year students and families from BISS Puxi take part in Giving Tree, a local charity that organizes seasonal gift bags for children of migrant workers in Shanghai and, new to this year, their teachers too. These children are from very low income families and highly value the gift bags our community creates for them.

  • Giving Tree 2013
  • Students at the British International School Shanghai, Puxi donating Giving Tree bags to migrant children

A video about the appeal made by one of our Year 13 students.

Each bag is allocated to a specific child. It comes with information about the child: their age, height, favourite colour, what they like to play with etc., so it’s a great chance to really put together a personal gift.

So far this year 243 Giving Tree bags have been donated, and we have pledged to donate 600 from the whole school so there is still time to get involved.

The bags need to be filled and returned by 11 November in time to be distributed to the children.

Below is some information about the bags and what needs to be put inside each one. All this information will also be sent out with the bags.

  • The Giving Tree bags will be pre-filled with a jacket, school stationery and a book bag.
  • The pre-filled bag costs 150RMB.
  • Families are also asked to purchase gloves, a hat and scarf, an educational book and a toy (to the value of approximately 100 – 125RMB).  Please ensure that this price range is stuck to as closely as possible to make all bags fair and equal.
  • Each bag will have information about an individual child to help you purchase a suitable toy, hat etc.
  • Bags will include instructions, helpful information and a gift card.
  • The jacket, stationery and book bag will be added after you have returned your bag with hat, gloves, scarf and toy.

If you would like to get involved, please take your reply slip and money to the Parent’s hub and leave it in the box there. You can find the letter on our website by following the link below.

We would love to hit our 600 bag target and help give all those children a great seasonal gift, so please do get involved!
