The two CISSA volleyball teams.
This year the CISSA volleyball teams have gone from strength to strength and last weekend the most exciting CISSA Volleyball season at BISS Puxi sadly came to an end.
We have had a record number or players participating across four teams made up of Year 7 to Year 9 students. The philosophy throughout the season has been that no matter what the score, we always play 3-touch volleyball. Some of the players found this difficult at first as other teams were winning sets by pushing the ball straight back over the net, but they found that their hard work had paid-off with the success at the end of season tournament last weekend.
Two teams traveled to SAS Pudong and two teams to Concordia, for a full day of volleyball games against other international schools in Shanghai. The BISS Lions teams stuck to their philosophy and although they came up against some experienced teams they were very successful throughout the day, being complimented by other coaches on their style of volleyball. Isabella Stolcis was the youngest player at the C1 tournament but she didn’t let the older students intimidate her, Jae Kun (Justin) Lee also played exceptionally well. Mr Hill, the boys’ coach, commented: “These players now have the basic skills and understanding to play volleyball at a high level if they want to and I hope that they do.”
Ms Moores, coach of the girls’ team: “We are very proud of our players for never giving up during the tough times. They are now much better players because of these experiences”
Santhiya Raavenan, Verity Lord and Fiona Cheng from 7P have loved being part of the volleyball team this season:
“This year’s volleyball season has been incredibly fun and competitive. During our matches we tried our best and enjoyed it. We travelled to many different schools and represented the BISS Lions. We have massively improved over the season and have a better understanding of this sport. These experiences will be treasured in our memories forever and even if we didn’t win, we practiced hard and came back fighting!”
