BISS Puxi Presents….The Threepenny Opera

21 januari 2016

The sly melodies of composer Kurt Weill and the daring of playwright Bertolt Brecht come together onstage in this unique and world renowned dark comedy.

Set in the impoverished back alleys of Victorian London, The Threepenny Opera follows underworld antihero Mackie Messer (a.k.a. Mack the Knife) as he tries to woo Polly Peachum, the Beggar Kings daughter, and elude the authorities - all whilst keeping his other less savoury lady friends and gang of loyal thieves appeased.

At the forefront of his desires though is his ultimate yearning to steal and corrupt his way into the society of the middle class. With its world of corruption and dread, The Threepenny Opera remains a benchmark of Twentieth Century Theatre and demands the audience ask the question – can beggars really be choosers?

With classic songs including the Swing staple ‘Mack the Knife’, this dark comedy is a show not to be missed. Not only will you be thoroughly entertained, but left to question important questions about the morality of society.

Suitable for those aged 11+, this show will take place in the Auditorium (secondary) from 1 – 3 March with more information regarding tickets released soon.

Rehearsals are currently taking place with our young actors and actresses getting into costume yesterday for a number of publicity shots.
