Following their study of old buildings, including sketching and photographing old buildings, the children decided they needed to go out into the city and find some more inspiration. So armed with a sketch book, a note pad and a camera, the Year Two children embarked on a visit to the Urban Planning Museum. Whilst they were there they were able to view a timeline that showed how buildings have changed over time, they enjoyed watching a video about their favourite Art Deco architect, Laslo Hudec, and even flew over the whole of Shanghai in a magic flying machine! The two main highlights of the trip were seeing a huge scale model of the city of Shanghai and visiting the observation floor which offers perfect views of Hudec’s most famous buildings, the Park Hotel and the Grand Theatre.
The children enjoyed the trip very much and gathered lots of ideas for their project. They look forward to showing the results of their work at the Year Two Learning Showcase later this term.
