Hamilton Boys High Rugby Coach Visit

26 oktober 2016

We were fortunate to host Nigel Hotham and Andrew Hay from Hamilton Boys High School on Monday. Hamilton Boys High School is one of the premier rugby schools in New Zealand, they have been national champions at 15’s and 7 a side, Nigel himself is the former head coach of New Zealand schoolboys.

It was therefore an invaluable opportunity for our pupils and PE staff to learn from coaches of this calibre and experience. Nigel and Andrew began the day by delivering a rugby session to our Year 10 boys during their PE lesson.  This group is a real mix of boys with some having played school rugby and others experiencing rugby for the first time.

The hour flew by with the boys hanging on every word from the coaches and were left wanting more. Nigel and Andrew followed this with some time spent with the PE department, sharing their insight into the sport and have left the department with some valuable resources.  After school the U19 rugby squad who are preparing for their ACAMIS tournament, were treated to a two hour specialist 7’s coaching session from our visiting coaches.

Our U19 players threw themselves enthusiastically into the session and have gained a lot from the experience and are well prepared for ACAMIS as a result. Many thanks to Nigel and Andrew who were excellent with staff and pupils all day, despite having only landed that morning following a 12 flight over the pacific.

Jonahan Fudge, Head of Rugby
