Andrea travelled all the way from Juilliard, New York for her fourth visit to our school and spent this week interacting with students, teachers and parents.
During class music lessons, Andrea used her Cello to demonstrate high and low pitch to a reception class, as well as joining in with a Year 9 Blues lesson and watching Year 3 students learn how to play extracts of Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring on the keyboard. She also taught a Year 3 class about the musical differences between a soloist and an orchestra, whilst teaching year 7 to explore their inner rhythm through a call and response lesson.
Perhaps a highlight of this visit was our parent workshop on Tuesday morning. Miss Rakowski and Andrea led a session which invited parents to look deeper into the music classroom and really explore the music curriculum in depth. Parents and students alike were joining in with activities pulled straight from the performing arts programme, and were also fortunate enough to hear Andrea perform as part of the workshop.
Andrea also heard some of our music ensembles perform on Tuesday afternoon when our KS2 rock bands and Singing Group came together for an informal concert. The students were also wowed with her performance on the Cello.
It has been another successful visit where the students have had fantastic opportunities to interact with our teaching artist Andrea. It has also been a refreshing time for the teachers who are continually looking at how we can develop the programme even further to ensure it can be the best it can be for our students.
