Year 1 are starting to develop their keyboard skills and now know how to find the notes C and D. They are combining this keyboard work with listening to Beethoven's Fifth Symphony and creating similar patterns of their own.
Year 2 are also progressing with their keyboard skills and building on what they learnt last year. This week each class has been working on differentiated versions of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, and even watched videos of Juilliard students playing examples of the nursery rhyme on the piano, demonstrating correct hand positions.
The Rite of Spring is still the focus in Year 3 and this week they have been looking at the theme of rivalry, which is a strong feature in Stravinsky's music.
We are still cello mad in Year 4! The students are now able to play simple melodies on all four open strings and are looking forward to starting using the bow in a couple of weeks. They are also still listening to Bach's Bouree as an inspriation for their playing.
Timbre has been a common theme in Year 5, and they are starting to use their compositional skills whilst still focusing on Peter and the Wolf.
Year 6 are refining their keyboard skills whilst experimenting with dynamics and texture during their Plamets topic. They are going to start comparing the music of the planets to other key instrumental works, such as Beethoven's Fifth Symphony.
