In literacy this week we will be extending our focus on Stories With Familiar Settings. We will be focusing on the settings and characters from the classic Shirley Hughes book: ‘Dogger’. This will also be linked to our PSHCE theme, as we explore and discuss the character’s feelings and emotions.
Puffer Fish- This week the Puffer Fish phonics group will be practising the sounds ir, ue, and ew. We will be learning to read and write new words that use these sounds, such as girl, blue and new. We will also be practising the tricky words water, where and who.
Star Fish and Jelly Fish- Jellyfish and Starfish are cementing their understanding of the sounds for s, t, a, i and p. Our focus is to now identify them in cvc words which will help us to decode them.
Octopus and Stingray- This week the Octopus/Stingray groups will be practising the sounds sh, th, ch and ng.We will be reading words with these sounds in them such as shop, chop, this and sing. We will also be practising the tricky words -to, I, no, and go.
Sharks- We will be working on blending words such as chimp, soft, camp, drink and thank. We will be practising reading and writing these and similar words, in simple sentences on our whiteboards.
This week we will be investigating common 3D shapes. We will use our knowledge of 2D shapes to see what shape their faces are, how many edges they have and how many vertices. We will continue to sort, order and match them. The key focus is name recognition of both 2D and 3D shapes. We will continue to revise our counting beyond 20 and number formation.
THEMED LEARNING AND PSHCE
This week we will continue with the theme of 'staying healthy' and 'well being' by discussing our emotions. We will talk about what makes us happy and angry as well as what makes a good friend. The children will learn 'Peaceful Problem Solving' strategies that they can use independently to resolve conflicts.
Literacy – story, setting, author, title, character, plot, feelings, emotions.
Maths – 2D shapes, 3D shapes, sides, corners, faces, edges, vertices, sorting, counting, numbers.
Humanities – feelings, emotions, peaceful problem solving, conflicts.
Deze week kijken we in de spiegel. Wie ben ik? Wat kan ik goed? Wat doe ik graag? We speuren naar de letter -i- en maken nieuwe woorden die we in ons letterwinkeltje stockeren.
Elke dinsdag gaan we met de Nederlandse klas naar de bibliotheek en mogen de kinderen een Nederlands boek uitkiezen. Gelieve uw kind op dinsdag het boek weer mee te geven. Dank voor uw medewerking hierbij.
