Week Beginning 7 March 2016

On Thursday 10 March the children will be showcasing the work they have completed so far this term in Themed Learning. The event will begin at 2pm, the children will showcase three areas of learning and the adults will move around the year 2 classrooms with their child acting as a tour guide!

  • Swimming - During the winter months, girls are allowed to wear black leggings and black socks instead of tights under their dresses/skirts on Swimming days. This will make it easier for the girls to change before and after lessons.
  • Uniform:  Now that it is colder in the mornings please remember that children should not be wearing leggings, boots or hoodies.  They should be wearing school jumpers/cardigans/fleeces and NOT non-uniform versions.  Information is available on the Primary Parent Handbook on the website.
  • On Friday 25 March we will have the International Day parade. Children will have the opportunity to dress in their national costumes or in the colours of their home country.

In Literacy the children will be making their own books! They will write a short story that will showcase all the work they have done this year on spelling, punctuation and grammar. Each page of the story will be illustrated by the children and then bound together. The children will base their story on the book Ferocious Wild Beasts’ by Chris Wormell.

In Maths the children will focus on developing their own strategy to solve both written and numerical problems. The children will learn how to solve problems using concrete objects or pictorially. We will also focus on helping the children to be able to rapidly recall the 2, 5 and 10 times table. Once the children have mastered this we will ask the children to apply this knowledge to word based problems.

In Themed Learning we will continue to explore how sound waves travel to our ear and explore how the ear turns the sound waves into a recognisable noise. The context of our learning will be that Superman has lost his special hearing powers and we must help him to regain his powers by experimenting with sound waves and how they travel.

The children will be helping to create a ‘Year 2 Promise’ display. The children will think of a promise that they want to keep this term such as being thoughtful and kind. All the children’s promises will be displayed in the Year 2 corridor and these promises will be referred to over the course of the term to ensure that the children are remembering to behave well and treat each other kindly.

Literacy – prepositions, adverbs, subordinate clause, conjunctions and contractions.

Math’s – multiples, divide, share, group, array.

Humanities – sound waves, vibrations, ear drum, anvil, stirrup, hammer, and cochlea.
