4I Class Assembly – Monday 22 January in Stage One at 1.45 – 2.30pm

  • Uniform:  Now that it is colder in the mornings please remember that children should not be wearing leggings, boots or hoodies.  They should be wearing school jumpers/cardigans/fleeces and NOT non-uniform versions.  Information is available on the Primary Parent Handbook on the website.

This week in Literacy we will be exploring imagery through the form of poetry and drama. The children will be thinking about volcanoes and their knowledge of how they erupt and using this in a creative way, acting this out and using this to help form ideas.  We will be using metaphors and looking at the language used effectively in poetry and also look at the work of famous poets.  This will develop into the children writing 2 poems of their own, in different styles, that they can publish and perform.

After the Chinese New Year break Year 4 will be focussing on extending their understanding and fluency with decimal numbers. They will work with place value problems to tenths and hundredths, learn to multiply and divide by 10 and 100 by moving digits across the decimal point. They will be taught to round to the nearest whole number and in some cases to the nearest tenth. They will compare numbers of uneven length, reinforcing their understanding of the decimal system. Challenges and problems will help them explain their thinking and some children will start to apply formal calculations to decimal notation.

Students will explore the geographical locations of earthquakes and the effects of their destructive impacts on communities.

Students will continue to discuss conflict resolution and consider alternative approaches to dealing with problems.

Over the course of the next few weeks, classes will work with Lego Wedo equipment. This is designed to teach modelling and programming skills to children. This year the focus will be on learning and exploring the mechanical aspects of the model and determining how they can change instructions to improve and develop the movement. The children will be encouraged to write their own programs and use their understanding to create models which work in similar ways to the examples.

This week we will be looking at the ‘App’ ‘Pic Collage’ to reflect on how it can be used as a tool to capture our learning journey.

Literacy – metaphors, imagery, feelings, colour, appearance, action, adjectives, description

Koken, bakken, braden...
