Week Beginning 18 April 2016

Saturday 23 April is the annual Garden Party which this year has “a twist of Shakespeare” as the theme. Again this year, we want to encourage students, teachers and parents to wear a great hat – the more unique the better. Flamboyant, fabulous and even more fantastic if you can link it to the Shakespeare theme! To add some variety we are also adding a new challenge this year. We want you to design your very own shield. You could go for a traditional design, a futuristic one or even one with a Shakespeare theme. Big or small – it is up to you but again we want you to show your imagination and creativity.

  • Now the weather is getting warmer, please could you encourage your child to bring in a hat and also a water bottle so that they remain well hydrated during the day.
  • Term 3 Second Hand Uniform Sale  3.00pm – 4.30pm on Monday 25 April in the Gallery.
  • Years 5 and 6 Sports Morning on Wednesday 11 May (8.45am – 12.50pm) at Secondary Sports Field.
  • The students have been busy in their houses organising and choosing their events. All students will have the opportunity to participate in a minimum of 2 events .There is also an option to take part in a fun tug-of-war and house team skipping. After registration, the students will assemble on the Secondary Sports Field. The day will begin with a warm up and stretches. The events have been designed around the FOBISIA designated athletic events. Years 5 and 6 students have been using curricular PE lessons to practice their events. Certain events (track, high jump, skipping and tug of war) will be timetabled events. The remaining events of; long, triple, or three springs jump; quoit throw; shot putt and basketball push are non- timetabled events. This means that competitors can freely move around these events and perform when they have the chance.

In literacy this week we will be looking at how to construct an informative leaflet. We will link this to our week in Lin'An, inserting relevant photos that support the text. We will also look at how to arrange information on the page to ensure the maximum clarity for the reader.

In maths this week we will be studying ration and proportion. We will look at the relationships between numbers, using our knowledge of fractions and decimals to make multi-step calculations. We will finish the week by completing some investigations using what we have leaned.

This week's themed learning will be based on consolidating our experience at Lin'An. We will review everything we have learned: about ourselves, each other and the environment. Children will work in small groups to make presentations that can be shared with next year's Year 6.
