Week Beginning 21 August 2017

  • Welcome everyone! It has been lovely to see the children returning to school with such enthusiasm and energy during the first few days. We can tell already that this year will be great!
  • Uniform-please remember to wear the Cubs T-shirt and bring at least three spare pairs of clothes to put in cubbies.
  • Help us to keep all your child’s belongings safe by labelling everything clearly with name and class.
  • Monday 21st August – ‘Meet the Teacher’ evening from 6-8pm. There will be a brief welcome followed by two sessions to enable parents with more than one child to go to both. We encourage new and exisiting parents to attend.  Session 1 starts at 18:30 and  Session 2 starts at 19:15.

We would like to ask that children do not attend the Meet & Greet event. The event is targeted at adults and the timing is late for the children on a school night. We fully understand that for some NEW parents, you do not yet have child care and so may have to bring your children. If you are bringing your child, please be responsible for your child at all times as they cannot be left unsupervised in school or the playground. You may want to bring something to keep them quietly occupied while the teacher is talking.

Thanks for your support and understanding.

Thank you so much for the support you have given us this week with settling new children in to school and helping returning children to settle with the transition from Pre-Nursery to Nursery.  Our main ambition is to make sure that all children develop a love of school.

We all know that children love and respond well to routine. During the week we have been busy making sure that the children’s beds and lunch places are clearly labeled with their names and photos. We want children to feel a sense of belonging when they arrive at school which will continue throughout their schooling. Next week we will introduce a system in each class for self registration. The children will be encouraged to put their name and photo on the wall so that we know who is in. This is one of the first steps in developing reading skills as it supports the children to recognising their own  and their peers’ written names.

We are delighted with the new furniture and sofas that have arrived along with many new resources. We have been informed that our overseas order of furniture and resources has arrived in China so we are looking forward to having more exciting things delivered in the very near future.

We have all been very impressed with how well the children are accessing the resources and experiences on offer and look forward to an exciting year ahead. We will be working with them to encourage this independence.

This week we have playing name games to support children to learn the names of their peers and teachers. During this experience we have observed excellent skills in turn taking. We will encourage the children to continue this skill and use the names of their peers in their play.

Our theme is "me and my friends" this week. The children will  learn how to introduce themselves in simple Mandarin and play finding friends game to help them develop their knowledge of their friends.
