  • Save the date: Nursery Christmas Show Thursday 7 December 9.30am
  • Save the date: Christmas Party Wednesday 13 December and Festive Frock day.

On Monday, we have a very special visitor from the Love Pet shop. We are lucky enough to have the shop owner come into school with some small pets for us to see. We will learn about the animals, what they eat and drink and how to look after them.

The children have been working so hard this week with making their costumes for the Christmas Variety Performance. We have been practising our songs and dance moves and the children are really excited for you to watch them on Thursday morning.

We will be making Christmas decorations and doing lots of baking next week in preparation for the ‘Morning Tea’ after the Christmas Performance on Thursday. During baking, we will be thinking about weighing and careful measuring of the ingredients.

During Mandarin this week, the children will be baking some delicious Christmas biscuits and thinking about good hygiene whilst baking.

Bake烹饪(pengren), cut切(qie), stir搅拌(jiao ban), mix混合(hong he), flour面粉(mian feng), sugar糖(tang), butter黄油(niu you), water水(shui), egg蛋(dan), oil油(you), biscuit饼干(bing gan)

Our trip to La Rive Des Pains bakery was a fabulous success. The bakery staff were extremely accommodating and supportive.  The children have been very interested in participating in baking experiences since. We would like it if you could all join us after the Christmas concert on Thursday to sample some of the delights the children have been preparing. A gentle reminder that when working with young children it is very much the process of the experiences they participate in than the product.

Doing so much cooking has been great in supporting children’s literacy and numeracy skills. We have been looking at recipes and talking about why we need them. The children have been counting out and weighing ingredients. This learning has also continued in the classroom, the children have been estimating, counting and recording numbers in the Wolf classroom. All of the children have been involved in the creative experience of working with an adult to make their costume for the Christmas concert. This involves a lot of mathematical language as we talk about size and measuring and quantities.

All of these wonderful experiences have exposed the children to some exciting new language including sprinkle, spread, sticky, stir, mix, add, lots, not too much, soft, cut, fold. They have also been learning the names if ingredients flour, water, eggs, sugar.

Of course we have also been doing a lot of work learning the songs and actions for our Christmas production. I hope the children have been having fun singing to these to you at home.  Many of the children know all of the words to all of the songs but with the little ones there is a strong possibility that on the big day they will be less confident to use their voices than they have been in the rehearsals.

Have a lovely weekend!
