  • PE and Swimming lessons We really enjoy our PE and swimming lessons, please check your child’s timetable to ensure you are aware of which days these lessons happen. If your child is unwell, please follow the school policy regarding absence from school. It is an important part of the currirulum, and therefore if children are in school they should be participating in these lessons. Please be reminded that the children are fully dried and hairdryers are used in colder weather months, perhaps include a winter hat on swimming days if you are worried about them being cold. Please alert your child’s class teacher if they are not taking part due to medical reasons. Thank you for your support.
  • Let’s Be Friends! We will be excited to welcome new friends to our classes in January and teach them how we look after each other and show kindness to our friends at school. We are very good at playing together inside the classroom and on the playground. We supervise the playground very carefully, adults are positioned at key points, with two adults availiable to move around and play games with the children. All adults wear high visibility vests so that they can see each other and be seen quickly by the children.
  • Earl Years Coffee Morning for new parents: Friday 2 February 8.45am in the Gallery with Miss Peacock

We have been thinking about our Animal friends who help us be better learners, such as ‘Proud Peacocks’, and ‘Trying Turtles’.

We know that we must work hard at being great learners independently, but we have also been learning about how much easier things are if we work together with our friends.

Can you find any jobs in your house where you need to work with someone else?

MATHS: doubling and halving

We are fantastic at adding now! We know that we need to make number sentences with 2 different numbers, and to count on from one number to another.

Now, we are practising our skills of doubling meaning that we select the same number 2 times within a number sentence. We will be practising getting faster and more confident with these number skills, and we will be starting to think about sharing as halving.

Add, double, bigger numbers, count on, number sentence, halve, share

PHONICS: Tricky words

We will be looking at the tricky words we have been learning so far, and building our bank of words that we can read. We will be practising how to read and write them this week.

EXPRESSIVE ART AND DESIGN: Chinese New Year Celebrations

We are preparing a very special performance for a Chinese New Year celebration, and each class will be taking part in a competition, judged by our lovely Qipao-dressed Mandarin teachers.

We will be moving in time to music, thinking about traditional Chinese music and dance styles, and copying movements within our own space.

We will continue to learn about the Chinese New Year. We will talk about how we celebrate it and decorate classrooms.
