Week Beginning 27 March 2017

Thank you to all the parents who have volunteered to share delicious food from their home country!  We (the children and certainly the teachers) are greatly looking forward to the International Week Food Fair on Tuesday 28 March.

  • Please be aware that the ECA/ BISCAP/Swimming programmes have now finished.  The Term 3 programme will begin on Monday 17 April and run until Thursday 16 June.
  • We will be celebrating International Week through song! Please join us for International singing in the primary school playground at 8.25am on Wednesday  29 March.
  • Our annual International Week Parade will be  on Friday 31 March.  The children can come to school dressed to represent a country of their choice,  face paints and flags are warmly encouraged! We hope that you can join us, the parade will start at 9am and we would love to see you there.
  • Please ensure that your child has the correct school uniform. In particular please ensure your child is wearing black shoes. Girls should wear plain white socks and boys should wear black or grey socks. You can review the school’s uniform policy here.
  • Our school librarians are in school until 4:30pm on a Monday and Tuesday.  If, as parents, you would like to borrow books you can set up afamily account.

This week, as part of International Week, the children will be using a lot of their speaking and listening skills when collaborating with others. They will be discussing each other’s countries and making some comparisons between them. The children will be using their research from the week to create a poster about their own country, and will present their ideas to other children in the year group.

Maths will have a distinct International feel to it this week.  As part of their International week project, the Year 4 students will complete a series of open ended tasks. The tasks will recap the Maths topic we have covered this half term. Ranging from calculating the cost of a trip abroad, to gathering and presenting data on their class mates nationalites, the week will allow studets to challenge themselves and tackle real world Math problems.

Data, angles, shape, coordinates, time, decimals, fractions, problem solving

This week the children had their learning showcase and they demonstrated some of the skills they have learnt over the term. The parents learnt about lino printing as directed by the children and the children taught them about how to make a strong, earthquake proof building by considering the shapes of the structures and what supports to include. This week has been used to reflect on children’s learning over the term and to consider the skills they have applied in various different ways.

Printing, skills, knowledge, reflection, learning, structures, earthquakes

In computing this week the children will be completing their work on Internet safety, thinking about how easily accessible personal information is on the internet. Our activities will hopefully make the children aware of what information to share and who it is important to share it with. They will also be using the Internet to research facts for their International Project on their home country. The children can use the ipad to record video news reports as part of their presentation too.
