We begin a three week block looking at the features and structure of fantasy stories next week in Literacy. We’ll start the week by watching clips and reading extracts from well-known fantasy stories such as ‘The Lion the witch and the wardrobe’ and ‘Peter Pan’. Our main focus for the first week will be how to write an effective opener with a description of the character, real world trigger which transports them to a fantasy world, and finally a description of the fantasy world.  There will also be a grammar focus on expanded noun phrases.

Noun, adjective, noun phrase, preposition, trigger, setting, character

This week the children will be looking at time. We will begin by recapping the features and structure of an analogue clock, and basic time vocabulary, before thinking about how the 12 hour and 24 hour clocks match up. Following this, we will study digital clocks and their layout, and again see how they link with analogue clocks. The children will then look at timetables in order to use and apply their knowledge and understanding of time in different scenarios.

Students will be challenged to design and make a parallel circuit of four bulbs, a buzzer and 5 switches so that all bulbs and buzzer can work independently of each other. We will challenge the students to plan and create a model of a four bedroom apartment from limited materials. The circuits and model apartment will fit together in the following weeks.

This week the children will consolidate their understanding of repetition and loops by using them in code to make an object turn repeatedly, and to make an animation. They will also be introduced to variables and how they can be used in computer programming. They will begin to understand that a score in an app is written into the code as a variable using Espresso Coding. We will also be using See-saw to video ourselves performing playscripts and to show what we have learnt in science with electrical circuits.

Van Reisbureau naar Vroeger...

Vroeger was alles ...
