Week Beginning 12 June 2017


  • We will be going to Nanbeihu on Wednesday 14th June!

On Monday 12th June children will be given their coloured Nanbeihu t-shirt and told the name of their group leader.

Please make sure your child comes to school on Wednesday 14th June with their passport or original travel document. Please also fill in the medical form if your child needs to take medicine whilst on the trip. Both the passport and medical form should be handed into the group leader on Wednesday 14th June.

We will assemble on the Primary Football pitch. If it is raining we will assemble in Stage One.

  • Class Lists 2017-18

We are currently working on class lists for 2017-18 and will share these with you during the week beginning 12 June.

As is our practice, we aim to provide stability for our students by moving them up with their existing classes where possible, while also taking account to ensure that classes are balanced. Following the issue of the class lists, it will be possible to meet with Ms Jess should you have any questions. However, we ask for your trust in us that that all decisions taken are in the best interests of all the children and your understanding that we cannot meet requests of individual parents.

  • As the weather is getting warmer please ensure your child is dressed appropriately and has their named water bottle, sun hat etc


This week the children will finishing off their argumentative texts. They will be redrafting their work and adding in any last viewpoints on Monday and Tuesday, before we head off to Nanbeihu.

In Maths this week the children will finish off completing their ‘Make Me a Building Challenge’. The children will have to calculate the area of the walls of the building and calculate the volume of space that the building can hold. The children will then need to add the roof to their buildings as well as complete some other fun Maths challenges.

In Themed Learning the children will continue to develop their scientific skills through our unit on space. The children will focus on carrying out their own investigations and applying their knowledge of variables to find out a conclusion to their investigation. They will also have the opportunity to write up their experiment using the subheadings they were introduced to in previous work.

Next week the students will still be looking at different modes of transport and giving directions. This week for homework they will be writing a paragraph about themselves and school. Discussing which subjects they like at school.

Next week we will be revising vocabulary through games using Rockalingua and Linguasope.  We will also create new Kahoots to test each other on our Spanish knowledge.

Next week we will start with our last topic of the year: art.  We will meet the famous Belgian surrealistic artist René Magritte.  Making surrealistic collages in the style of Magritte, we will practice the names of the prepositions and talk about the arrangements of the objects in French.

This week’s homework will be making a collage of objects and prepositions.

Die Schüler untersuchten die zusammengesetzten Nomen und die damit verbundenen Regeln, z.B. den Artikelgebrauch und das Fugen-S.
Anschliessend lernten sie, die Informationen fuer eine Freizeitkarte zu recherchieren und nach W-Fragen aufzuschreiben. Zu Hause sollten die Kinder eine Freizeitkarte von den Freizeitangeboten in Shanghai zusammenstellen. Ein paar Beispiele von den Freizeitkarten sind im Booklet (Seiten 92, 109) zu finden.
Folgende Freizeitangebote wären möglich: Jump 360, Lego Dioscovery Center, Happy Valley, Disneyland usw.

La semana próxima empezaremos un proyecto cultural mediante el cual trabajaremos la expresión oral y escrita para ampliar vocabulario y trabajar los tiempos verbales complejos. Para deberes, los estudiantes deben leer otro capítulo de un libro de su elección y resumirlo.

Deze week starten we het onderzoek voor onze vlog: ‘ode aan de ... !’ Leerlingen leggen een dier naar keuze onder de loep: wat is het natuurlijke habitat, hoe ziet het eruit (als jong, volwassen dier, bejaard dier), waarvan leeft het, hoe leeft het (alleen of in een groep), etc.

Als de informatie verzameld is schrijven ze hun script en filmen we de vlog met ‘the green screen’ op de achtergrond.


We ronden de Cito-toetsen af. Resultaten worden zo spoeidig mogelijk gecommuniceerd.

Leerlingen kunnen niet voor de toetsen leren, maar het wekelijkse huiswerk van SDS  is een goede Cito-training.De leerlingen worden vooral aangemoedigd om extra spelling te oefenen met BLOON (, inlognaam is SDSyear3 of SDS year4 of SDSyear5 of SDSyear6, wachtwoord spellen). Het trainen van spelling is een kwestie van herhaling. 

Ook het maken van de Nieuwsbegripopdrachten online is een goede oefening.
