Week Beginning 19 June 2017


  • Please note that the BISCAP/ECA/BISS LIONS Swim programme has now finished. There will only be buses at 3:30pm from now on.
  • This week is our BISSCARs celebration in the Auditorium on Thursday 22 June from 9:30 – 13:00. Please note children come to school dressed in smart clothes on this day and they will be able to go home at 13:00. Please inform your class teacher if your child will be staying in school after this time.

  • Reuse, Reduce, Recycle: Second Hand Uniform Sale

It is that time of the year again when many families are preparing to move away from Shanghai and on to new adventures! Or perhaps your child has simply outgrown their current tops and bottoms. Please consider donating all your unneeded BISS Puxi uniforms to the Second Hand Uniform Sale. All items can be dropped at the Primary or Secondary reception desks until the end of the school year. All items need to be clean and in good condition, thanks for your support. The next Second Hand Uniform Sale will take place at the start of the new school year. So please come and restock your children's uniforms at the sale in beginning of September. If you would like to work on the Second Hand Uniform Sale project, please email Tracy at It only involves 4 afternoons over the course of the school year and all proceeds go to charity.

  • Friday 23rd June – Y5 Class Party & PTA Disco.  On this day, children can come to school dressed in their party clothes. They do not need to bring their school uniform on this day.

In Literacy this week we will be finishing our novel ‘Millions’. We will look at how to discern clues to how a character moves, looks and behaves from the text and use the dialogue to develop relationships between characters.


In Maths this week we will be using the Lego Mindstorm building and programming kits to link our mathematics with computing skills. The children will be building and programming robots to take part in disaster relief operations, helping to find trapped people and building robotic arms to dismantle collapsed buildings.


This week in Themed Learning we preparing for our BISSCARs celebration by writing and rehearsing for our performance on Thursday 22 June.


This week we will be looking again at e-Safety, further helping the children understand how to be safe when online and how to control their own profile on the internet. We will also look at how to make safe searches and how to respond if something inapropriat is encountered.

This week the children will be continuing to discuss safe play and sensible choices on the playground. We will be discussing how to resolve conflict peacefully.  We will also be focusing on how we should treatdifferent groups in our society including minority groups.

Students will have termly progress assessment this week.


Year 6 French – Dr. Cattel / Mme McConnon.
Students will play the revision games that they have created on the Tuesday next week. There is no lesson on Thursday.
Homework this weekend is to ensure that the students’ games are completely ready to play on Tuesday. Some students are doing questions for the games, others are doing instructions in French, others  are finishing the board. All materials (board, cards etc) should be brought into school on Monday to ensure that they are not forgotten on Tuesday.

Year 5/6  Spanish -  Ms Martinez
Next week we are going to continue to study the artist Salvador Dali. We will be creating a fact-file about him, investigating his artwork and choosing a piece to replicate. We will use vocabulary to describe what we see and try to construct simple descriptive sentences.
Homework this week is to revise the vocabulary set on Rockalinga

Year 5/6 French - Ms Rae
Next week in French we will continue with our mask. Children have selected an emotion to design their mask around and we will begin the construction phrase. We will also be thinking about writing descriptions and opinions about each other’s mask in French.

Homework this week is to bring in any additional resources you will need for your mask designs.

Die Schüler wiederholten die Themen Praedikat und Freizeitbeschaeftigung und bereiteten sich auf den Jahresendetest vor, den sie naechste Woche schreiben werden. Am Ende des Booklets gibt es viele Aufgabenseiten, die sie für den Test üben sollten.

Year 5/6 Native Spanish  – Ms Garcia
La semana que viene, como la profesora está de colonias, los estudiantes trabajarán independientemente en la lectura de capítulos de Marcos Mostaza y harán un resumen. También completarán fichas de ejercicios para repasar ortografía.

We werken verder aan ons onderzoek voor onze vlog: ‘ode aan de ... !’ Leerlingen leggen een dier naar keuze onder de loep: wat is het natuurlijke habitat, hoe ziet het eruit (als jong, volwassen dier, bejaard dier), waarvan leeft het, hoe leeft het (alleen of in een groep), etc.

Als de informatie verzameld is schrijven de leerlingen hun script en filmen we de vlog met ‘the green screen’ op de achtergrond.


De laatste Cito-scores worden deze week verwerkt. Resultaten worden eind deze week gecommuniceerd.

Vertrekkende leerlingen

De leerlingen die ons helaas gaan verlaten, ontvangen van SDS een onderwijskundig rapport. Hierin staan o.a. de uitslagen op de toetsen vermeld, evenals een uitgebreide persoonlijk commentaar.
