    Laura Tara Cooke

    Reception Class Teacher

    Laura Tara Cooke

Laura knew she wanted to be a teacher after her first day at school at just four years of age. She delights in the opportunity to inspire a lifelong love of learning in all children from the moment they start school. One of her first experiences of teaching was at her local performing arts school, where she helped run the Early Years classes in singing, dancing and acting. Laura graduated with a 2:1 in Contemporary History and Politics from the University of Leicester in 2011. It was here that Laura discovered Cheerleading, competing at a national level and performing at the Leicester Tigers’ and Walker’s stadiums. She trained as a Cheerleading Coach whilst completing her PGCE in Lower Primary Education (3-7 years) at the University of Cumbria in 2012.

She has worked in various schools in the English Lake District National Park ever since, and enjoyed running Cheerleading clubs in all of them. Most of Laura’s 6 years of teaching experience has been in Early Years however her most recent role as Head of PE meant she was able to work across her infant school, as well as support other schools in the local community. She likes to contribute to the wider world and spent last summer delivering training to teachers in deprived areas of India. This spurred her interest in moving abroad to teach. Laura was very excited to come across the vacancy at BISS Puxi and is looking forward to making the move!

    Reception Class Teacher

    Chloe Stevens

I graduated from the University of Derby with a BA degree in Early Childhood Studies in 2015. Whilst at university, I undertook a study abroad year in Belgium, teaching in an international school in year 1. I also moved to the USA on two occasions during the summer months to support a children’s summer sports camp, taking on various roles such as teaching swimming and sailing. My time in American allowed me to work with children of all ages and from a variety of different backgrounds. In 2016, I qualified as a teacher specializing in EYFS at Sheffield Hallam University. Starting my teaching career, teaching a Reception class in Derby. I then decided to move to Dubai, UAE where I having been teaching for Reception for the last two years. These experiences have given me a solid understanding of the EYFS curriculum and how to effectively support children with English as an additional language. I’m now looking forward to starting my new adventure in Shanghai and starting at BISS Puxi.

I am a passionate and dedicated teacher who always sets high expectations for my children, so they are able to reach their true potential and achieve their ambitions. I focus on creating a nurturing environment in which the children are challenged to take risks, explore their curiosities and as a result become independent learners.

  • Ryan King

    Ryan King

    Reception Class Teacher

    Ryan King

Before venturing to BISS Puxi in the summer of 2019, Ryan spent the last ten years in England working predominantly in the Early Years sector across a number of different primary schools, two local authorities, NHS, Sure Start and private childcare providers. In 2019 he decided to challenge himself to apply his experiences and expertise to entirely new cultures and ways of life

After completing a degree in Sport and Exercise Science at Nottingham Trent University in 2008, Ryan delivered curriculum P.E. across two different primary schools for 18 months, securing coaching qualifications in football, athletics, and gym instruction along the way.

Following this, he secured a role in 2010 managing an Early Years project for two local authorities, NHS, and Sure Start - representing a multitude of agencies, with the Local Service Level Agreement of ‘facilitating the physiological, psychological and social development of children in the Early Years’; Within this role in 2012 Ryan produced a document entitled ‘Early Years Physical Development Guide’ that was disseminated amongst hundreds of professionals and families across Leicestershire, detailing the

significance of Early Years development and the intricate links between physical development and cognitive development.

In 2012 Ryan studied for a PGCE at Bishop Grosseteste University in Lincoln, and has since worked at over 30 schools across Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire, generally deployed in the role of improving standards within a school’s EYFS unit over a short period of time, putting strategies and structures in place that could still be maintained after he had moved on to a different school.

In his final role in England, Ryan worked alongside a group of partner schools to try and facilitate a smooth transition into the new Early Years Curriculum, and accompanying Ofsted framework, (due to be implemented in 2020/21), as well as preparing to pilot the new statutory F2 baseline in 2019/20, a year prior to it becoming statutory in 2020/21.

Furthermore, as well as leading Early Years, Ryan has taught in Years one through to six, and has been a subject leader for EAL, R.E. and Modern Foreign Languages, even briefly securing a job lecturing French and English language for North Notts College between teaching roles.
