Lisa Serrano

Assistant Head of Primary Early Years

After completing her undergraduate degree in Performing Arts in the beautiful city of Oxford, Lisa went on to complete her PGCE in Secondary Drama and Dance. With a varied educational career, Lisa has been fortunate enough to work with children right from the EYFS to their A level studies in Primary, Middle and Secondary schools. Originally inspired by her love of her subject specialism, Lisa’s interest in child development and the process of learning soon took over. After working as a Head of Department and focusing heavily on improving academic results, whole school welfare and leading educational visits both in the UK and abroad, Lisa took a keen interest in the transition process between Primary and Secondary which led to her move into the Primary Sector.

After joining the SLT in an outer London school in 2015, Lisa was able to really develop her understanding and appreciation of teaching and learning within the primary sector. The multicultural nature of the school further piqued an interest in EAL and SEND in its wider form, leading her to complete her SENCo qualification at the University of Exeter. Although now further removed from the classroom, Lisa is keen to continue to share her passion for Drama and Dance and has directed many whole school productions and dance recitals alongside her SLT role, allowing her to continue to develop her own teaching skills and build important relationships with children and parents alike.

Lisa moved to Shanghai in 2018 to lead and assist with the set-up of a new school for children aged 2-6. After an exciting year of developing a new school in its infancy, she is delighted to take up her new role at BISS where she will be leading the Early Year Cubs. Lisa completely fell in love with Shanghai and the vibrant and exciting nature of the city and is excited to work with the staff, students and parents of BISS Puxi.

When not at school, Lisa can be found partaking in a range of sporting activities from marathons and triathlons to netball and dance. Since being in Shanghai she has taken up Gaelic football as well as joining the F45 community. As a lover of food and travel, she has thoroughly enjoyed exploring the fantastic dining scene in Shanghai, as well as exploring the rest of South East Asia. She is most content when combining her love of travel with her passion for sport, whether surfing, snowboarding or running in different countries around the world.
