This led to Michael taking on a role as a Year 4 teacher in Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam. After two years in Vietnam, Michael returned to London for a further year.In 2012, Michael took up a role as a Year 3 teacher in an international school in Dubai. After a year, he was appointed Head of Year 2 where he developed his practice further for four years, in addition to becoming the school’s Teaching and Learning Coordinator. Following this, Michael was promoted to Phase Leader of Years 5 and 6, where he was able to share his passion for child-centred learning on a larger scale.
After seven happy years at the school, Michael decided to apply his teaching in another setting in Dubai and moved to another international school where he taught a Year 6 cohort. Following eight years in Dubai, Michael and his family made the decision to apply for a role in Shanghai, and he was attracted to BISS following glowing recommendations from others within the Nord Anglia family and the shared ethos about teaching and learning.
Michael has a passion for teaching and learning, and sharing good practice with others. He believes that a classroom should have a buzz and be alive with activity and collaboration, with the children at the centre and the teacher acting as facilitator. He believes that this allows each child to grow and reach their potential and beyond.
Michael has always had a passion for travelling and this was the initial catalyst to exploring the world of international teaching. This is rivalled by his love of sport (mainly football and rugby) and music (although he has yet to learn the instrument as he has promised to do!). Michael is the father to three children (twin boys and a daughter) and his twins are due to start in Nursery in BISS this year, which they are extremely excited about.
