Phillip hails from Leitrim in the North West of Ireland. He started his teaching career in a school in Dublin in 2009 but like a true Geographer, wanted to travel and experience different cultures. In 2012, he moved to Abu Dhabi and was Head of Humanities for 5 years. The UAE truly is a melting pot and because of this, Phillip has had the opportunity to work with teachers from all over the world and similarly, teach a culturally diverse range of students. This is something he will never take for granted. He has learned a lot both professionally and personally by working in a multicultural environment. Phillip is very excited to continue his learning journey in China.
Phillip’s number one motivation as a teacher is building positive relationships with the students. When students feel supported, they are more likely to engage in learning and have better academic outcomes. A passion for Geography coupled with enthusiasm tends to grab the student’s attention and drive engagement. Both of these qualities are fundamental for success in the classroom.
Other than his two children, four of Phillip’s greatest passions in life are: going to the gym, football (he is a Tottenham Hotspur fan through and through), general knowledge (Phillip has organised and been quiz master for many staff quizzes in his time), and learning as much as he can about the world’s most remote destinations.
