    Alexander Kolb

    Alexander graduated from the University of Leicester with a 2:1 degree in Law and later completed a mathematics conversion course and mathematics PGCE at Bath Spa University. He previously worked in the United Kingdom as the Head of Mathematics at a secondary school in Hampshire. He has worked with a huge array of different ability students and is extremely proud of the excellent results his students have achieved. His department was also specifically mentioned in a recent glowing Ofsted report.

     

    Alexander is excited about moving to Shanghai and is pleased to be working in such a reputable and successful school as BISS Puxi. He loves working with young people and has a passion for inspiring others. He enjoys developing reasoning and problem solving skills with those he teaches and can’t wait to show others the beauty of mathematics.

    Faiz Hussain

    Faiz graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University in 2013 with a 2:1 in Mechanical Engineering. He then completed his PGCE in 2015 at the same University. He has been teaching for 4 years at Outwood Academy Ormesby in Middlesbrough and joined the BISS in 2019.

    Mathematics Teacher / IB Diploma Programme Coordinator

    Thomas Housham

    Thomas attended the University of Bristol and graduated with a Masters degree in Mathematics. While attending this university, he also studied French. Thomas’ mathematical studies were broad at first but later specialised in pure mathematics, which was the topic of his dissertation.

    Nicholas Turner

    Nicholas graduated from Leeds University in 2005 with a Bachelors degree in Mathematics and Philosophy, specializing in the Philosophy of Science and Pure Mathematics.  He began his career working as an auditor for an accountancy firm in London but soon realized his passions lay elsewhere. He completed his PGCE course at Goldsmiths College, University of London and worked for six years teaching in two different London schools where he developed an investigative approach to teaching mathematics. His most recent job before coming to BISS was working for three years as a mathematics teacher at an international school in Malawi, Africa.

    Aruna earned her Bachelor in education and Masters in Maths from India and her PGCE from the University of Sunderland, UK. Aruna taught for 11 years in India before moving to Shanghai in 2008, where she taught in an international school.  She believes Maths benefits from inquiry based and logical approaches to real world problems.
