Marlon Devonish


High Performance Olympic Gold Coach

Marlon was a professional sprinter for Great Britain for over 20 years. He competed in the 100, 200 and 4 x 100 m relay and is Britain’s most decorated male athlete with 18 medals. He is most well known for being one of the four that won Gold in 2004 at the Olympics games in Athens in the 100 m relay. Throughout his athletic career Marlon was awarded for his success and was awards an MBE with his fellow team mates. Furthermore he has honorary degree’s from both Coventry and Warwick Universities for his dedication and successes in his sport.

High Performance

After retiring officially from athletics in 2013, Marlon created a speed consultancy business working with predominately professional football and rugby players to enhance their sprint speed relative to their sport. Alongside this, he worked as a business coach for a German company sharing has knowledge and experience on what is high performance in various international countries such as, Australia, India, Singapore and the United Kingdom. Before his post at the school he has worked with children in education, visiting schools across the UK motivating and inspiring children to maximise their potential through P.E. and sport.

n 2017 Marlon saw the opportunity to give back his wealth of knowledge with the students here at The British International School in Shanghai Puxi. He is a High performance coach at the school, working with student athlete’s on developing the appropriate mindset that breeds success. Amongst various projects throughout the school Marlon leads the Athletics program to make champions in life through sport. He works with all the pupils age 2 to 18 at the school and works alongside the PE department at BISS.

Marlon enjoys being creative, although he hasn’t painted for some time, he exhibited his work at the Windsor Contemporary Art Fair and has sold various art pieces over the years. He has a strong desire to learn more about the mind and enjoys reading research studies in psychology and uses the Nord Anglia University resources to strengthen his knowledge further and share this with the students, connecting the theory with his experience. Marlon’s position at the school is a unique one, and he is an extremely important asset to our school.
