Shakespeare Week

11 March 2015

BIS Abu Dhabi is excited to be involved in Shakespeare Week which commences the week beginning 15th March, on the theme of the life and times of Shakespeare. It will be a week packed with exciting activities, including:

Drop Everything And Read (DEAR):

Every person in the school to be carrying a book/magazine/reading material at all times.  When the whistle is heard – drop everything and read for 10 minutes. You will hear the whistle again to signal the end. If staff are caught, they will be named and shamed in the Primary entrance!

A screening of The Lion King – Shakespeare Under the Stars

On Sunday 15th March will host an outdoor movie night showing The Lion King at 6.30pm – 8pm.  Children, parents and staff are invited to come to school in the evening with a picnic blanket, cushions etc. to our outdoor cinema! Bring your own snacks too.

Shakespeare by Sunset

On Monday 16th March the Primary Little Stars will be performing a musical version of Midsummer Night’s Dream, in the outdoors. The grassy area will be open from 4pm, with the show starting at 5.15pm. Families are encouraged to bring picnic blankets. Picnic hampers will be available from D club or you can bring your own.

Book Swap

Students are encouraged to bring in unwanted books to swap for a voucher, and then on the last day can swap their vouchers for a new book.

There will also be a staff and parent book swap (and bake sale!) in the hall after school on Thursday 19th March. The PTA will be collecting the books for this every day during Shakespeare Week between 7.30 and 7.45 on the playground.

Tudor Day

Tudor day will take place on Thursday 19th March with students and teachers to come dressed as a Tudor or a character from Shakespeare’s plays.

Shakespeare Scene Bursts

Secondary students will be doing random sonnet/scene bursts into classrooms and offices throughout the week.
