We are very excited that next week will see the whole school celebrating our multiculturally diverse community by participating in International Week.
Our focus this year is on the Arts, with students developing an understanding of different forms of art and culture from countries all over the world. Apart from Year group based activities where in Nursery, FS2 and Primary students will learn about the Art from specific continents, and Secondary students will work in teams to make presentations about their own countries, there are a few major events which will take place across the school next week. These include:
SUNDAY – ARTS LEADERS – A small group of parents have volunteered to run Arts themed workshops to introduce students from Years 4 – 9 to an Art aspect from their country. The representatives chosen from each class will then take the skill, whether it is a dance or style of painting, back to the rest of the class where they will teach it to other class members.
TUESDAY – INTERNATIONAL FOOD FESTIVAL – All students will have the opportunity to visit the buffet and take a taster plate of food from over 26 countries. There will be a separate letter about this with your class weekly email this week so please look out for that.
THURSDAY – INTERNATIONAL ARTS SHOWCASE – All students are invited to dress in either national costume or the colours of their flag on Thursday. There will also be special assemblies running throughout the day for students to enjoy and develop an appreciation of the performing Arts from a range of countries. Parents of the students performing are invited to attend at either the 8am or 11am performance. All other parents who would like to watch the showcase are invited to the 1.45pm performance.
CANVASES – Nursery, FS and Primary students will work cooperatively as a class to produce a piece of artwork in the style of the continent they are learning about. The PTA have generously supplied each class with a canvas for this purpose. The PTA is planning a silent auction of these art pieces at some time in the future.
DOOR DISPLAYS - Nursery, FS and Primary students will decorate their classroom doors during the week to reflect the art style of the continent they are learning about. Please take the time to look at these wonderful works of art when you are next in school.
Should you wish to share aspects of your culture with the students please do not hesitate to contact either your child’s class teacher or Mrs Croome on: email@example.com
