Firstly, may I take this opportunity to thank all parents and students for such a kind welcome back now I have returned to Abu Dhabi. It is so nice to see all members of our community again and to see so many smiling faces. It has been a very smooth and successful start to the term and this is so apparent in the joy of the children’s faces when you see them around school.
I have titled this article as “Best In The World” which is a statement I am delighted to be able to make! This week we have received a letter from Cambridge Assessment International Education which is recognising the success of our students in their Cambridge examinations. It is common for examination boards to inform schools about those students who have performed to the very highest standards and it is such a pleasure to receive a letter like this each year.
A number of our students study languages in addition to those which form the main part of our curriculum. This is notably so at GCSE and IB level with students often studying and extending their home language, a common feature of international schools. We also have some of our younger Secondary students completing GCSEs, even before they reach the age of 16.
The following are the four BIS Abu Dhabi students who have received special recognition for outstanding results in their examinations:
High Achiever: Taein Kim
Top in UAE: Solenn Legoyon
Top in the World: Karima Hendarta, Tomaz Favrin
This is a fantastic achievement from these students, really demonstrating the high academic standards that are possible. We often talk to students about “Being Ambitious”, and Taein, Solenn, Karima and Tomaz are excellent role models which show all our students of the high levels that can be obtained.
Whilst mentioning academic achievement in particular here, I would also like to highlight a sporting triumph. Gaith Mubarack is a student in Year 6 who won a world gold medal in Jiu Jitsu earlier this year. He is very modest about this but has said I am allowed to share this tremendous accomplishment in the newsletter!
Whether it is in the area of academics or sports, it is so wonderful to hear about the amazing successes of BIS Abu Dhabi students. I am certain this will inspire so many of our other students to be ambitious and reach similar heights of world success.
