Being a school which is part of the Nord Anglia family of schools gives BIS Abu Dhabi lots of advantages. In particular, our students get to experience worldwide links and opportunities which are not possible for most other schools.
It gives me great pleasure when the opportunities of being part of Nord Anglia Education become apparent in the achievements of our students, and perhaps none more so than what we have seen this week.
For those who may not be aware, The Juilliard School in New York is probably the leading college for Performing Arts anywhere in the world. Because of the partnership between Juilliard and Nord Anglia, our students study a specially designed curriculum in Music and in Dance which helps expose them to learning possibilities way beyond the normal curriculum.
Last term our students in Years 3, 4 and 5 got to work on their own compositions as a class and submit these to Juilliard. These compositions have now been performed by musicians at Juilliard who have just sent to school a recording of these performances.
It’s worth stopping and reflecting on that for a second….. our Primary students have composed their own piece of music and are able to see it performed by world-leading musicians! It is just so rewarding to see the outcome of such a wonderful opportunity, and also to see such high quality in the pieces of music.
Our Director of Music, Kate Rochell, will publish an article on the Weblog later this week explaining the concept in more detail and linking to a video so people can see the compositions Please do enjoy watching the work of some of our young students and the international artists they have been able to partner with. I am sure this will be a great inspiration to so many of them to aim for even greater achievements in the future.
