We visited the Sheikh Faisal Museum and Mohammed Al Dosari zoo on Wednesday 9th May. We went as a school group and were privileged to have a private tour of both locations. We learned a lot more about the history of Qatar, family lineages, and the value and importance of religion in the region. Several Qatari students also saw their own family history imprinted on the doors of the museum.
Getting out was a great opportunity to see how hard work has paid off in the past, and some of the difficulties the people of Qatar have had to overcome in the past to survive or improve the living standards for their families, such as the history of a life of a pearl diver, or how medicine evolved in Qatar. We saw a lot of the history of the country and how design has influenced architecture, clothing, writing. This is especially important since culturally there is no imagery built around animals or people, so nature and geometry plays a major part in making functional parts of life beautiful to behold.
The Zoo and Museum both play an important part of preserving the history of the region beyond Qatar, and help Qatar and residents to learn about and respect the land we live in and how much care we must show it to make sure it continues to support life for years to come.
