Meet the Tutors

Our Meet the Tutors afternoon on Tuesday 18 September was met with a great deal of success. As it was explained in the introductory presentation in the hall, building and maintaining a solid relationship between home and school is essential. As such, our presentation attempted to communicate the ‘why’ behind what we do during the day with their child.

Understanding the ‘why’ does not only cover curriculum, assessment or well-being matters, but also our approach to attendance and punctuality, our uniform and PE kit, or our Healthy Eating policy. During the presentation, I briefly mentioned a piece of research that I had read some years ago that highlighted the importance of the home school partnership.  Here is an article that may be of interest:

The introductory presentation in the hall was followed by some time in the students’ respective Tutor base with their Form Tutor to allow for more specific information, discussion and questions. The afternoon drew to a close in the courtyard with the opportunity for more discussion.

As promised, you can find my presentation here. In addition to the opportunity to sign up for ECAs and private clubs in Reception, the afternoon also offered the chance to purchase/order the missing school uniform items. If you are still in need of some, please refer to the presentation as information on how to visit the shop in Doha or order online is included, for both the uniform and the PE kit. Please remember: as a school community, we are setting ourselves the target to have all our young learners in uniform/PE kit by the autumn half-term break.
We are looking forward to collating the feedback from our parents on the workshops that you would like us to organise for you. Please watch this space for some announcements and do not hesitate to write a note in your child’s communication book if you would like to add to your suggestions.
Finally, I cannot reiterate more strongly the need for you to support your child’s learning at home. A first positive step could be to set aside some time every day to read together, and stick to it!
My heartfelt thanks to all our parents who attended our Meet the Tutors event.
