Primary School 26 November 2019 On Wednesday we marked World Children’s Day in Primary with a “no technology” lesson. This was done in recognition of the fact that many children around the world live without access to the comforts and resources that we enjoy every day. Our classes discussed the similarities and differences between schools in other parts of the world and our own school. We discovered that we are quite fortunate to attend a school with excellent resources, space to play and lots of people to make friends with. After these discussions, we got involved in a number of activities. Here is a small selection: 1JBR started some amazing artwork. The children used PVA glue to trace the outline of a dove and then they sprinkled salt over the PVA glue before dusting it off to reveal the outline of the dove: 1LBA looked at art by Andy Goldsworthy. We then went outside and used natural resources to create our own artwork: 2AGI had a go at making floor games and drawing their home country flags on the floor: Year 3 classes discussed the different needs and desires of children around the world. They also thought about all the good things they have in their lives. They then worked in groups to design posters illustrating their ideas: 4SSI spent the afternoon drawing portraits of each other without using technology. They had to concentrate hard to remember all the details to include! The children really enjoyed these activities and it was so lovely to see them engaged and working closely together.
