As the Primary School teachers were planning their Around the World Cultural Event lessons, the Secondary School students were also hard at work preparing presentations for each of the Foundation and Primary classes. Students from Years 7, 8 and 9 volunteered to present a short lesson to their younger NAISAK peers. The students focused on a particular country and created a PowerPoint on the culture and geography of the chosen country.
The students used their Learning Muscles and practised reflectiveness as they included different activities for the classes to make their contributions relevant to the age group they were addressing. For example, Arham Irshad, Pugazhenthi Kabilan and Noel George from Year 8 added music from China and had a dance with the children of Foundation Stage 1. Kumkum Parmar, Cinta Nijland and Evelyn Naibaho from Year 7 baked cookies and made colouring pages for the children of Foundation Stage 2S who were studying Ireland. Meera Al Humaidi, Shahad Al Muhannadi and Sama Yasser from Year 8 found a game from the Maldives and played it outside with 3S.
Most students only focused one country and presented in small groups to build confidence. However, some students (Ramsagar Konagandla, Suhashini Saravanan Ruckmani, Ryleigh McCord and Shonchari Subha) were confident enough to present on their own. Two exceptional students (Anna Davis and Ardini Wan Edrin) took on the task of presenting two countries to two different classes, and excelled at it!
Through this experience, the students learned to adapt their knowledge to a younger age and to present in a clear and careful manner. They all said that they enjoyed taking part and we received wonderfully positive feedback from the Foundation and Primary School teachers!
The school’s Facebook page has been inundated with pictures, but here are a few others as testament to the Secondary School students’ contributions. This coming week, the Secondary School is selecting some more students to escort parents and Primary School students ‘around the world’ on International Market day, and get another chance to admire all the hard work that has been produced during this exciting and always eagerly expected event.
