The start of a new academic year brings with it the opportunity for students to develop their skills as a leader or a team player. Eco-buddies play an immense role at school and are selected from Y3 to Y10. Students in Secondary have been busy promoting their actions and motivating their juniors to be part of the team. The 2016-2017 Eco-buddy team went to Primary classes asking for volunteers to get involved and become role models. Everybody agrees that our Earth needs some special attention and care, but who actually takes the time and provides the effort to make a difference? Eco-buddies do! Last year’s Eco-buddy team visited the classes asking their peers to commit to making our planet a better place to live. The process of selection was based on filling up a form to describe their aim as an Eco-buddy and their thoughts on what is causing harm to our planet.
Here are some of the comments received:
“I would like to be an Eco-buddy to make our school greener and cleaner, so visitors can say what a green and tidy school this is.”
“We are the ones who harm our planet by throwing rubbish, littering, wasting paper, chopping trees and allowing more CO2 in the air.”
“The greenhouse effect causes harm to our planet: the release of CO2 causes temperatures around the world to rise.”
“I always wanted to take care of plants: since I do not have plants at home, I want to become an Eco- buddy at school.”
This year, the Eco-buddies have great plans to create awareness among students, parents and the NAISAK community on how to become green. They will have a number of field visits to become more sensitive to the environment. Please support them and be role models!
