Key Stage 2: Dance-tastic

We had a very creative week with a dance-tastic assembly and a visit from a Juilliard expert. More details on the Eco Beasts STA Farmers’ Market, competitions to get involved in/winners and an amazing recycling race.

Dance-tastic Assembly!

Last Friday, the children in KS2 were entertained by some dance performances from their friends who take part in our dance ECAs and squads. This was a fantastic showcase of the children’s efforts and enthusiasm for dancing. Well done to all of the dancers and their coaches.

STA Farmer’s Market with Happy Grocers
The main project for Ecobeasts this term has been to learn about ‘food miles’ and the sustainability of buying locally grown food rather than items imported from far away. We are pleased to announce what we hope will be a regular farmers’ market with ‘Happy Grocers’ at our Primary Campus.

Here are budding Ecobeast sustainability writers Prasanna and Tan to explain the project in their own words:

HAPPY GROCERS ARE COMING TO SCHOOL!

In our Ecobeast ECA we have been looking into the selling of local produce in an easier, cheaper way. We discussed and planned for an opening of a fruit and veggies shop on the school premises. We wanted to make it available for the whole school community.

On our search we found multiple candidates for this job, and decided on ”Happy Grocers”. This company provides organic fruit and vegetables and delivers them straight from the farm to businesses or private homes.

In this way, fruit and veg travel releases less emissions and cuts costs. It also was important for our ECA to show a way to avoid plastic packaging of typical edible supermarket products.

Happy Grocers will come to our school every Friday (14:00-16:00) to sell some organic, seasonal fruits and vegetables that are common in Thailand. They will be set by the big pool on the Primary campus and they will be available for teachers, parents, staff and children.

How to order:

Here is a comprehensive list of fresh produce you can order. This includes different milks in glass reusable bottles, bread, meats, tofu and fresh and delicious local fruit and vegetables. You can preorder using this form, but a range of products will be available on the day. Follow this link for more about Happy Grocers.

Anti-Bullying Week @ STA
Anti-Bullying Week will take place 16th-20th November. Students will be focusing on the topic of bullying in their PSHE lessons. There will also be a Non-Uniform Day to start the week on Monday 16th November. We are asking for 50bt donations to help raise money for our school 'Friendship Zone' please. This is something the School Council is working on creating and will be a space where students in KS1 & KS2 can go at break times where friendship and team games will be encouraged. The School Council is hoping to purchase a range of equipment to encourage joining-in and group play for this. Foundation Stage will be raising money to purchase a ‘Friendship Bench’ for their area.

Find out what else will be happening during Anti-Bullying Week here: Anti-Bullying Week Info Slides.

House Recycling Race

Primary School students recently completed the STA trash dash in the recycling race of the year. Students had to overcome the obstacle course and select the appropriate recycling bin for their trash items, all in the name of Sustainability ... and House Points! Thanks to everyone who turned up.

Halloween Poetry Competition

Mrs Leanne- our English Coordinator- had a difficult time judging the Halloween poetry competition. There were so many, spooky videos in which the children had clearly worked hard to write and learn their petrifying poems. Well done to everyone who took part in this competition. In each year group, 3 children were awarded extra House Points for their efforts. The overall winners in each year group were:

Year 2 - Virsa
Year 3 - Alexandra
Year 4 - Prasanna
Year 5 - Maya
Year 6 - Grace (6H)

You can view all of the entries which were posted on the Padlet wall here.

The overall winners videos can be viewed here.

poppy

Poppies

Year 6 will be selling poppies to the community over the next 2 weeks. This annual fundraising event for the Royal British Legion has always been well supported by our community. Poppies are on sale for 10 Baht each and the Y6 children will be bringing them around at break and lunchtimes.

Christmas Card Competition

Christmas Card Competition

Partnership for Children, who bring Apple & Zippy to our PSHE lessons in Years 1 to 4, is running a Christmas Card Competition and the winning design will be used for their official Charity Christmas Card. Students also have the chance to win an Apple’s Friends or Zippy’s Friends resource pack for their class, as well as some house points. All they need to do is draw a colourful, festive picture of the Apple, Zippy & Friends characters on the given template, which they can get from their class teacher or the library. Entries should be handed to class teachers or Ms Selina by Monday 23rd November. The form to enter the competition can be found here.

The closing date for the contest is 18th Nov 2020.
