Key Stage 2: Rockets and musical fanfare

Remaining ECAs for Term 2 will be cancelled...Year 5 launched rockets and explored space...The lack of an audience couldn’t stop the music from the Year 4 Music Concerts...We advise on online learning in the event of school closure.

The Cancellation of all ECAs

Unfortunately, today, Monday 16th March, will be the final day for all ECAs this term.  By clearing children from the campus by 3pm for tomorrow, and for the rest of the term, teachers will be able to focus on developing varied on-line learning materials (see section further down). Information about the Term 3 ECAs will be sent to you in due course.

Your support with clearing the campus by 3 pm would be greatly appreciated.

Year 5 Rockets

Last week, Mr Jeremy- one of our Year 5 parents- came into school to help enrich the children’s topic- Space. He did a short presentation on rockets and space exploration for each class before taking them out onto the field to have a go at launching some rockets. Mr Jeremy used the 3D printers to design different nose cones and fins for the rockets which allowed the children to see the impact of different shapes on the flight of the rockets. The children were very excited to take their turn at pressuring and then launching the bottle rockets. Things got very exciting when they switched to the 2 litre bottles, which managed to reach about 100 m. We would like to say a huge thank you to Mr Jeremy for his hard work in preparing this exciting opportunity for the children.

Year 4 Music Concerts

Last week, Year 4 were showing off all of the hard work they have been putting into their music lessons. The children performed on ukelele, recorder, bucket drums and they also sang. Unfortunately, due to the current restrictions on large events, parents were unable to attend. However, the show must go on, so the children still performed to an almost empty house. We recorded both days performances and a video of these will be shared with parents too.

Preparing for on-line learning

The teachers and coordinators have been working hard over the last couple of weeks to ensure that in the event of a closure there will be lots of meaningful learning and fun activities prepared for the children.  In the Primary School the idea is that the lessons are offered to you in a flexible way that ensures you can help your child at a time that works for your family. There will be videos made by the teachers, links to other learning resources, opportunities to meet teachers on-line individually and even in small groups.

There will of course also  be some feedback from the teachers.

There will be a need for you to have access to the internet, but we are trying hard to also give you ideas for practical activities that are not done online.

Many of the providers that we use for teaching resources are making more resources available to parents, and we will send you more details of these if we enter into an online learning phase.

Facemasks

If you would like your child to wear a facemask in school, can you please make sure that you send one to school with them.  At this time school is finding it increasingly difficult to keep up with a demand for facemasks and the nurse is no longer able to issue them on request.
