Staff Profiles: Mr Ben

Ben Hough

Geography and Global Politics Teacher

I started my journey in education as a special needs teaching assistant in 2002 before completing a PGCE in Geography at the Institute of Education in London in 2004. I then taught in an inner city comprehensive school in London for five years before moving to my first international teaching job in the British International School in Ho Chi Minh City (which is now a Nord Anglia school). In 2013, I took a break from teaching to become a student and completed an MA in Environment and Politics at King's College London.

Following that, I returned to international teaching and have subsequently taught in three different international schools across three continents, most recently as Head of Humanities in the British School Yangon. I am very much looking forward to working in the Humanities department at St Andrews!

I am a keen runner (or at least I was pre-covid) and have completed a number of half marathons and a couple of marathons, most recently in Chon Buri. I have also recently taken up kitesurfing and look forward to practising this more in Thailand.

I've never worked at a school which has the happiness of its students firmly embedded into the mission statement! It was one of the reasons I was so keen to work here.
