I have been teaching mathematics in the UK for the last ten years, with the last three years as a Head of Mathematics. I like to put fun into my teaching as well as real-life situations, and feel that building confidence is very important. During my time as Head of Department the school gained record results which is something I am very proud of. My wife and I have been visiting Thailand for the past five years and we love everything about it. So it seemed the perfect equation, doing something I love in a place we love.
I like everything sporty, especially football and I am a West Ham fan; some would say I have just contradicted myself. I like to play a round of golf, go swimming and play badminton. I also love to travel and look forward to exploring more of the world with my wife now we are in Asia. We have already booked a trip to Cambodia and Vietnam is also on our hit list. I also like to chill at home of an evening, cooking a meal and relaxing in front of a good movie.
Students say that I have a good sense of humour and am very fair, and that I make maths seem easier and help them to build confidence.
St. Andrews is unique because it IS a community where everyone feels valued supported and welcomed. Somewhere where you can have fun, feel safe and wear a big smile. Walking around the school, whether it's a year 1 swimming class, a year 7 basketball class or year 13s doing their IB work, everyone has a smile, shows respect and knows they are part of an amazing community. Being new this is something I found out very quickly. Some mission statements are just words; here it is central to what everyone does and who everyone is.
