Mark Tugwell

Year 4 Teacher

Being the oldest child of a large family, I have grown up having regularly entertained and supported my younger siblings. I began sports coaching from an early age and would spend many weekends at the age of 14 - 16 organizing sporting festivals and activities for primary school children. It was through my love of sports coaching that I knew teaching was the career for me.

I completed my PGCE at the University of Brighton before heading to Bromley (south London) to work at a large Junior School. I enjoyed three fantastic years at the school and took on many roles in my time there, including Head of IPC and Head of Year 3 & 4. I then made the decision to head back to Sussex (my home county) and worked at a small primary school just outside of Haywards Heath. I completed three incredible years at the school, working as a Year 4 & 5 Class Teacher and the Head of Sport.

Teaching is my absolute passion and I argue to anyone that I have the best job in the world. I hold dear to me so many amazing memories with the children I've taught, including residential trips to France, dress-up days, a Greatest Showman sing-along at the cinema, and a range of sporting competitions. Equally memorable were events outside of school time, such as soccer matches and dance competitions, where I've been able to support the children in things away from the classroom. I work hard to get to know all of the children so that their passions and interests can be supported in the best way possible.

My journey has taken me to Boston, a city which feels like my home away from home. Sport is an important part of my life and having parted with my Brighton and Hove Albion season tickets and left my local soccer and cricket teams back in England, I am grateful that Boston has so much to offer. I love the theatre, eating out, and the many interesting neighborhoods in and around Boston. I was particularly drawn to the British International School of Boston because of the individual learning journeys which are offered to the children, something which I feel passionate about. I am excited to get to know all the children and families at the school and contribute to this fantastic community.
