Robert Ward Penny

Maths Teacher

I am really pleased to become a part of the British International School of Boston. I am joining the BISB team with over a decade's experience of secondary mathematics, having worked in the Midlands, London and at another school in the US. I've also taught in the PGCE and Masters-level mathematics education courses at the University of Warwick. I was awarded a PhD in Education in 2013, and have written widely on mathematics education for professional and academic audiences.

For me, learning mathematics isn't just about getting the right answers and passing an examination. It's also about developing a powerful way of seeing the world, strengthening critical thinking skills, and more often than not, having fun whilst doing all of the above! I have a particular interest in cross-curricular work in the mathematics classroom, and enjoy sharing with my students some of the many ways that mathematics is useful and relevant in today's world. In my spare time, I enjoy travelling, reading, playing the piano and geocaching.
