As a passionate historian, I have enjoyed seeing history and geopolitics in action in a variety of professional environments. Before training as a teacher at the University of Bristol, I acted as a visitor manager for a 15th century castle in the Cotswolds. In addition, my training as a Royal Naval Officer gave me insight into the role and impact of the military. I enjoy working as part of an international team.
I have been teaching history to 11 to 18 year olds for 10 years in the UK and United States. I decided to join the British International School of Boston due to the strong focus on history in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. I'm pleased to say that so far 100 percent of students have elected to study history when the choice was given, with many going on to select it as a topic for Higher Level study during the IBDP.
I enjoy travel and the great outdoors and am always pleased to share these interests with students. New England has so much to offer the outdoorsman. While at BISB I have led expeditions to the White Mountains of New Hampshire, trips to Cape Cod and the islands and beyond.
At the moment I’m also enjoying renovating an 1850s homestead farmhouse in rural Maine.
WHAT MAKES THIS SCHOOL DIFFERENT
The international and diverse nature of our student body brings unique perspectives to class discussions. I enjoy the rigorous academic curriculum, balanced with the great opportunities to enjoy outdoor pursuits with the students.
